Turning the Tide: A Siren's Revenge - Copyright © Decadent Publishing, 2018

Daphne’s heart accelerated, throbbing against the darkness around her. Much like her life, she couldn’t control anything on this lousy island, including the elevators. Next time, she’d take the stairs—if there were any.

Her senses converged on warm fingers, feather soft, brushing her cheek. Gripping more firmly. Harder. Then the mouth. Oh God, the mouth.

Giovanni’s lips followed the pattern of his fingers. Brushing softly at first. Then pressing into her flesh until she opened to him. When she stepped backward, her spine contacted the elevator wall. The handrail dug into her waist while his torso covered the front of her. His hands felt so hot on her bare shoulders. So why did she shiver?

How could she have forgotten how good he smelled? Warm and slightly spicy. Not like a high-level executive but best friend-turned-lover. Craving more, she inhaled to the depths of her lungs.

She heard and felt his fast, deep breaths, too. Oxygen rushed through her lungs, matching his pace. The small space they stood in had no boundaries. Walls, arms, hearts. They were all one.

“We c-can’t—” she uttered when she managed to twist her head away.

“Yes, we can,” he whispered. “We are.”

She’d forgotten how persuasive he could be. Despite its softness, his voice commanded her the way it did executives in the boardroom.

After drawing her closer, he inserted his tongue between her lips. It felt as if every muscle in her face had let go. She couldn’t keep him out—not that she wanted to.

You can’t stop me. I dare you to try.

Drunk on Men monthly serial kicks off in April

You may think it’s sloe fizz gin
But honey we’re sober, just drunk on men

When three African-American women meet at a resort on the Jersey Shore in the 1920s, they say goodbye to their old lives. Finding men as intoxicating as bootleg liquor, they pin their futures on happily ever after. But love can be worse than a hangover when the men’s flaws threaten to destroy them.

Hannah knows it’s time to replace her fiancĂ© who died in the war, but the abrupt white man who rescues her from rough surf hardly fits the bill. Belle longs to ditch her latest meal ticket, but is the rich African-European owner of an upscale hotel out of her league? And while Edie struggles to face her upcoming arranged marriage, a rugged Hispanic-white fisherman decides to stake his own claim on her.

This 8-volume serial is a heady romance cocktail stirred with addiction, abuse, betrayal, and scandal. These women aren’t perfect and neither are their men. If you think you can handle it, read on and watch three steamy interracial relationships explode across the pages.

Rose, Exposed (Book 2)
When Leroy gets promoted at the new oyster plant on Pearl Point, all he cares about is working hard. Then he meets flirtatious artist Rose, and soon nothing matters except getting her to the altar and into bed. He’s healing from a recent loss, and isn’t about to let her go too.

Because Rose’s strict, social-climbing father doesn’t approve of dark-skinned Leroy, they court in secret. Although Leroy’s raw passion can convince her to do almost anything, why can’t he understand she needs freedom, not marriage? However, in the 1930s, freedom for any woman is hard to come by.

In Leroy’s arms, Rose finds unimaginable sensual pleasures, but she’s torn by desire and duty. Her father wants her to be white; Leroy wants her to embrace her black heritage. Playing both sides of the fence leaves this young biracial beauty exposed in more ways than one.

Blurb
Alan Shifflett left his old pack due to an inherited mutation that makes him a violent freak. He lives a dull life farther north, suppressing his shifts. But when his father can no longer run Moonlight Diner due to failing health, Alan is compelled to rejoin what’s left of his pack in Florida and face his weakness.

Shelley Fields, once a spoiled high school beauty queen, has dedicated her life to helping her pack. In public, she ridiculed Alan because of peer pressure, but secretly, she longed for her mate. When he returns, she confesses her true feelings, but Alan has no intention of staying where he doesn’t belong.

Meanwhile, Curtis—his rival—has a score to settle, and threats from a rival pack are standing everyone’s fur on end. Terrified of the beast inside, Alan is desperate to return to his safe life, but is leaving his mate, kin, and pack in danger worth the price?

Excerpt
Inside the cab of Shelley’s bronze pickup truck, Alan put on a T-shirt and a pair of worn jeans from her donation bag. They fit tight because they were too small. Not that it mattered. She’d already witnessed his bare erection in the woods. God, he hadn’t been that hard since he’d dreamed about her in high school.

The bed of the truck was full of rakes, shovels, and fruit and vegetable bins.

“You’ve got enough tools back there to supply food for the whole pack,” he commented.

“I pretty much do,” she replied. “I bought a farm with money I inherited from my daddy after he died in the attack. My mom and I do most of the work.”

Luckily, the other cars were already gone, giving them some privacy. He wiped his knuckles across his mouth, grimacing at the sore scabs. He was Scabs again, all right. Here he sat in Moonlight, Florida, feeling like the biggest failure who ever lived. His life in northern Virginia might have been dull, but at least he’d felt worthwhile. Like a man. No different than the others around him.

Despite his snaggly mouth, she’d looked ready to kiss him out there in the woods. The moon must have played tricks on him. She’d never wanted him. He’d hoped she would’ve grown up over the years, but the rest of the pack sure hadn’t. They’d acted like a bunch of schoolyard bullies in the diner, and he’d let them push his buttons again. Maybe he hadn’t grown up, either.

Did she need reassurance she remained sexy by getting every man she came across to drool at her feet? She merely had to do look in a mirror. Whatever game she played with him now, he didn’t want any part of it.

He tipped his head and inhaled the air. Ever since their almost kiss, he’d gotten drunk off her unique scent—one he’d remembered over the years. It reminded him of a sweet, juicy orange. Inside the truck, it smelled stronger than it had been in the woods. The arousal in it, rich as a slab of key lime pie, stood out as obvious as his erection.

Knowing he made her hot helped make up for his crappy reception in the diner, but he had to focus on Dad. Miss Prom Queen wasn’t going to make a fool out of him a second time.

Despite the racial tensions brewing in Oyster Harbor in the 1930s, three interracial couples have found love. When a hurricane blows through, will hate finally be washed away or will it grow back stronger than ever?

Jonathan Carter, filled with hate from a childhood incident, cares only about keeping the Klan strong on the island. Cali Waters, still grieving for her husband who died from a Klan attack, longs to use her healing gift instead of being the Carter family cook. When a hurricane threatens the hospital Jon started to build, an injury puts his life in her hands and a chance to heal more than his flesh.

Jonathan’s sister, Mary, is tired of the sheltered existence she’s lived since being raped.  When Jimmy Clark, a black oyster shucker, rescues her during the hurricane, she heals from his gentle love. But if her brother finds out, both relationships will be put to a test fiercer than any storm.

Oyster Harbor ~ where passion and race collide

Excerpt (explicit)
“Lock the door.”
She frowned and halted her movement. “Whatever for?”
“Cali, if you’d stop questioning everything, I wouldn’t have to give you so many orders.”
She left the cloth balled up on his belly. The sound of the lock clicking into place made him hard. When she returned to his side, she rinsed the cloth and stroked it down his legs. The sight of her skin—brown with a touch of gold—looked so perfect next to his. Made him look more alive. He was always too damn pale, especially now because of his injury.
“Ahem. You forgot an important spot.”
She glared at his jutting organ. “You can clean that yourself.”
“Not as well as you can.” He grasped her wrist and covered it with her palm. “Heal me, Cali.”
The pressure of her supple fingers through the thin cloth was gone too soon.
“Your chest needs healing. That other part of you seems healthy enough.”
“Everything is connected.” He commanded her with his eyes. “Besides, I know you want to.”
Her bottom lip quivered. “You’re nothing but evil, Jonathan Carter.”
His breath caught when she finally stroked the cloth down his length.
“Get rid of the rag,” he said. “I need to feel your healing touch.”
But she looked down and froze.
“And for God’s sake, don’t think about your late husband. You’re a vibrant, young woman in need of pleasure. Besides, he’s not here.”
“His spirit is always around me,” she whispered.
“No, it isn’t. We locked the door.” He rotated his hips under her hand even though it made his chest hurt like hell. “We deserve a little pleasure after that miserable night.”
“It was rough,” she agreed. “But you confuse me.”
“The feeling is mutual.” He sighed. “Are you going to wash me or not?”
Her slender shoulders rose and fell with a shrug. “I suppose a bath isn’t so evil.”
His head thrashed against the pillow as she cleaned him with a few swift strokes. Since she insisted on using the washcloth, he plucked it away. A spasm gripped his chest from the feel of her bare palm against his swollen flesh.
“Cali,” he gasped. “A little more.”
Wet and soapy, her hand skated across him. Closing his eyes, he imagined he was inside her instead. Someday, he would be. Strong, virile, and pinning her to the bed. Driving into her hard, over and over until she shattered.
A flash of blinding pleasure ripped through his balls before he could warn her.
“Oh!” she exclaimed when his seed coated her fingers. “The more I clean you, the dirtier you get.”

my first audio book!

Alpha in Disguise is now available in audio!

The process was pretty easy. Decadent Publishing worked with me to find a narrator I liked. First, I filled out a questionnaire to indicate what my characters are like and what accents I preferred. Since the book takes place in South Dakota, I chose a western accent. Then I had to pick the gender of the narrator. That was tough. Since the heroine in this story is so strong, I went with female.

Next, I had to pick an emotionally gripping scene and have the narrator read it. That was a good opportunity to catch problems like mispronunciation of names and inflections that differed from what I envisioned. Once approved, I had to listen to/review the entire book, chapter by chapter.

It was really cool to hear my story spoken aloud. It made it seem real and in the moment. I'd even forgotten some of the nuances I'd written. I hope readers enjoy it and more audio books will follow.

Have You Ever Been To The Romance Slam Jam?

Have You Ever Been To The Romance Slam Jam?

The answer to that simple question is “no” more often than it should be. But those who do attend their first RSJ are typically surprised by what they find. I think we all go that first time expecting a reader & writer convention and instead find a family reunion and a family you didn’t even know they had! And usually all it takes is one time to start a lifetime of attendance.

After all, what’s better than spending a fun-filled weekend in a new city with people who share your passion for African American Romance?

There is something for everyone. During the day, craft shops for our authors to hone those skills, so they can continue bringing us the stories we love for years to come. And for the readers fun & games and plenty of opportunities to commune with our fellow readers and authors whose books we can’t get enough of. Then at night, food and music, karaoke and a river cruise as we jam the night away. For RSJ 2016 we’re trying to cram in so much fun and activity you will never have a dull moment!
There are free book exchanges, a movie screening and a vendor fair. There are city tours to both Motown Hitsville USA and the Wright Museum of African American History. There’s the annual big book sale and signing to with all the authors and of course, the Emma Awards where we honor the books we love. And all of this while staying in the elegant Royal Dearborn Hotel, the second largest hotel in Michigan, conveniently located within walking distance of Fairlane TownCenter, one of the best shopping malls in the area. So, I hope you will join us in Detroit in April 2016 as we are revving up the romance in the D!
